Mission Opportunity for October: World Hunger
- According to the most recent survey on hunger and homelessness conducted by the United States Conference of Mayors, 40% of adults requesting emergency food assistance were employed.
- In 2006, 16.8 million people lived in working-poor families
- One out of six children live in a food insecure household, which means they do not always know where they will find their next meal.
- 9.4% (3.4 million) of the elderly live below the poverty line.
- Counties with disproportionaltely high rates of persistent poverty are often rural
What Can You Do?
- PRAY, asking God for the wisdom to se others as He sees them and for boldness to reach beyond your comfort zone to someone in need.
- LEARN about how hunger affects those in the United States and around the world.
- GET INVOLVED in meeting the needs of the hungry
- GIVE through your church, designating your offering for the Coomunity Clearinghouse Backpack Ministry, the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund, or through your state Baptist convention.
Immanuel Baptist Church will have our Stop Light for your pocket changed (and remember ... you can slip dollars into the slot also) in the front of the Sanctuary every Sunday through the month of October. Our Offering will go to the Community Clearinghouse for their annual Grocery giveaway through Thanksgiving and Christmas.
